Mandela day Camphill Village 2018
Camphill Village Mandela day 2018
To be part of the organizing team for Mandela Day was an indescribable experience. This incredible day was filled with lots of excitement from the word go. Lights, camera and action! "Marlize Visser"
Ideas Magazine - For Mandela Day, Terena of Ideas Magazine offered to transform our Community Centre foyer. She casually mentioned painting the foyer, a mural, new blinds and fixing the furniture. What a generous offer and all in one day? Come Mandela Day, she and her team arrived, an all women team with one male assistant, paint brushes, drills, skill saws in hand. They worked their 67 minutes x 10 and a miracle happened: a once drab, tired area was transformed into a place of tranquillity and light. All future gatherings have already been earmarked for this new energy-filled space. Beautiful colours, flowers, paint, freshly painted furniture, newly upholstered and blinds to match. Stunning!
Afrimat - For this Mandela Day we approached Afrimat and asked: “Could we possibly have 36 cubes of concrete to build our 230-meter pathway?” To put it into perspective that is 6 truckloads full. What a surprise when Jaco and Jo popped in and said they could help. “With how much?” we asked. “With the whole pathway!” they replied. We were so overwhelmed we could hardly comprehend the magnitude of this gift. It has been christened the Afrimat Pathway.
Department of Agriculture - They donated compost, thousands of vegetable seedlings and over 200 hands to help with our planting, path making and alien clearing projects, and then entertained us with songs they had rehearsed for the day.
A huge thank you to the staff and interns at Elsenburg for your support!
Stellenbosch University - On Mandela Day, they returned to help us with our projects, and brought along Stuart from the Botanical Gardens at Stellenbosch. While dragging branches and sweating it out, they discovered a plant growing in our fields that is nearly extinct in South Africa, which we can now protect.
Apollo Bricks - Your continuous support of Camphill Village is much appreciated and above all you offered a wood chipper plus hands for our Alien clearing project.
West Coast College - Thank you for your volunteers and the lovely cake you baked for the occasion.
Omni Energy - Wheelbarrows, advice and hands
BVN Construction - Wheelbarrows
Johann Latsky Photography - patiently photographed and videoed all the happenings.
Volunteers - Thank you friends of Camphill, you have come, given you time in aid of Madiba and to the benefit of Camphill Village.
